When Creativity Strikes… You Just Have to Make the Thing

When Creativity Strikes… You Just Have to Make the Thing

This weekend I had one of those bursts of creativity that you just can’t ignore.

You know when you’ve had an idea sitting quietly in the back of your mind for ages, and suddenly it decides now is the time? That was me this weekend. I’d been thinking about making a pair of barrel trousers for so long, but between work, mum life, and running a small business, it kept getting pushed further down the list.

But this weekend I decided… that was it. I had to make them.

So I did what any fabric-loving person would do — I took Norah for a little trip to the haberdashery on Rochester High Street and let her help choose the fabric. She took this role very seriously (as you can imagine). There’s something so lovely about wandering through shelves of fabric and imagining what each one could become.

After much deliberation, we picked the perfect print, and the weekend became a bit of a sewing marathon.

And honestly… I’m obsessed.

I spent the weekend measuring, cutting, pinning, and sewing until I had created the perfect pair of barrel trousers. The kind that are comfy but still look put together, with that slightly structured shape that makes them feel a bit different from your usual everyday trousers.

Now that they’re finished, I can’t stop thinking about making more.

Different prints. Different colours. Maybe even a few seasonal fabrics. I’ve already started mentally designing the next pair.

It’s funny how creativity works like that. One idea turns into ten more before you’ve even finished the first project.

So now I have a question for you…

Should I add handmade barrel trousers to my shop?

I’d love to know what you think. Would you wear them? What fabrics would you love to see?

Because if this weekend taught me anything, it’s that sometimes the best ideas come from finally making the thing you’ve been thinking about for ages.

And I have a feeling this might just be the beginning…
